Material Composition

BioViron CompostaFoam is biodegradable (ASTM D6400) compostable and water-soluble starch based foam is manufactured from Cornstarch and Soy Oil. It has been accepted for use within the supply chain as an environmentally friendly space filling material for transit packaging applications. 

68% less energy requirements and 76% less greenhouse gas emissions than comparable amounts of polyethylene foam.

BioViron foams provide effective product protection and offers an environmentally safe, zero waste alternative to current synthetic foam products. 

Technical data

BioViron material is safe, non-toxic, water-soluble, fully biodegradable polymer material and meets all US and international standards of biodegradability including specifications for compostable plastics as per ASTM D6400 (USA), DIN54900 (Germany) and EN13432 (Europe). 

BioViron CompostaFoam has shown to be biodegradable in various environments as per ASTM D5988 (soil), ASTM D5338/ISO14855 (composting) and ASTM D6691 (aqueous and marine). If discarded in any of these environments, the foam would become readily available as a nutrient/food source for the micro-organisms and enter the microbial food chain. 


These unique properties provide unique opportunities in discarding BioViron CompostaFoam in an ecologically responsible and environmentally acceptable manner.

For the production of biodegradable mulch films, BioViron generally recommends CompostaFilm BVF102 which is certified compostable.

PLA is a biobased polymer derived from natural resources and offers a significant reduction in carbon footprint compared to oil-based plastics. CompostaForm BVC100 is a high viscosity, low flow, amorphous, transparent PLA resin suitable for film extrusion, thermoforming or fibre spinning.

The product range that CompostaForm BVC100 can replace is extensive including many single use plastics. Applications include package inserts to protect items such as chocolates or glass, bottled drinks, cups, packing boxes for fruits, single use plates, egg trays, lids and much more.
